Setup
Each team receives:
- 1 Startupoly Canvas
- 2 Customer Segment cards
- 3 Cost Structure cards (same for all teams)
- 2 Revenue Stream cards (1 fixed: Sales Revenue + 1 random)
- 3 Value Proposition cards
- 2 cards each from: Channels, Customer Relationships, Key Activities, Key Resources, Key Partners
- 2 Wild Cards
- 2 Action Cards (to be used only on round 3)
Round 1
Strategy
Teams review their cards and build their initial Business Model Canvas.
Not all cards will match the assigned Customer Segment. Teams must decide strategically which cards to keep and which to place in the “Cards to Trade” area for the next round.
This round focuses on analysis, planning, and positioning your startup strategy before entering the market negotiation phase.
Round 2
Open Market
The trading phase begins.
Teams negotiate and trade cards to improve alignment with their Customer Segment. Unlimited trades are allowed — but timing and negotiation matter.
Customer Segment cards are fixed and cannot be traded.
Teams must work strategically while optimizing their business model.
Round 3
Market Dynamics & Action
Action time!
Action Cards represent unexpected strategic opportunities to gain additional points.
In turn order, teams play their Action Cards and execute the action (swap or steal).
This round introduces competitive pressure, forces strategic adjustments, and simulates real-world startup dynamics.
Round 4
Scoring & Pitching
Teams calculate points based on their completed canvas. The instructor will reveal the winning combinations.
Bonus points
-MVP Bonus: If all 6 cards (Value Proposition, Key Partners, Key Activities, Key Resources, Channels, and Customer Relationships) match the Customer Segment
-Product-Market Fit Bonus: If Value Proposition cards matches your Customer Segment
Finally, each team delivers a 2-minute pitch presenting their startup.
Instructors may award extra points for strong presentations.
